Atlanta is the Fulton County seat and reaches into DeKalb County, with 498,715 people counted in the 2020 census. Away from Downtown, Midtown and Buckhead, the city is mostly low-density neighborhoods where the craftsman bungalow is the dominant house. The eastside streetcar suburbs went up between the 1890s and the 1930s, and Inman Park was the city's first planned suburb. In houses that old, the garage is often detached or added later, and the opening may not match today's stock door sizes.
That is why we measure before we quote a new door. The measurement is free, in your home or over a video call, and it covers the width and height of the opening plus the headroom and side room the tracks and springs need. An older garage with a short header or a narrow opening can still take a new insulated door, it just has to be ordered to fit. When the new door goes in, we haul the old one away as part of the install.
The tree cover is the other thing to plan around. Vegetation covered 47.9% of the city in 2017, the highest share of any major American city. Big storms do reach the city: the National Weather Service rated the March 14, 2008 downtown tornado an EF2, with winds estimated at 130 mph along a six-mile path. If a limb or a storm has dented panels or bent a track, leave the door shut and call us rather than running the opener.
My detached garage in an older Atlanta neighborhood has an odd-sized opening. Can it get a new door?
Yes. We measure the opening, headroom and side room for free, in person or by video, and order a door built to that size.
A tree limb hit my garage door. Is it safe to open?
Don't run it until someone looks at it. A bent track or cracked panel can bind under spring tension, so leave it closed and book a repair.
Do you work on the opener as well as the door?
Yes. Our crews service LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Craftsman and Genie openers, and the common repair parts are on the truck.
