Garage doors in Sandy Springs

Sandy Springs counted 108,080 people in the 2020 census, which made it the seventh-largest city in Georgia. The area stayed rural until Georgia 400 and Interstate 285 were built in the early 1960s, and those roads set off a housing boom. A house from that first wave is now around sixty years old, and if it still has its original garage, the framing, track mounts and wiring may all be due for a look when a door or opener starts acting up.

Terrain matters here too. Riverside, on the city's western edge along the Chattahoochee, is known for winding, hilly roads, and hilly lots tend to mean sloped driveways and garage floors that are not quite level. A door that closes onto an uneven slab can sit crooked, leave a gap at one corner, or keep reversing. Often the fix is an adjustment of the cables and the opener's travel limits, and our crews carry the parts if anything needs replacing.

Winter can catch the city off guard. In January and February 2014 a snow storm and then an ice storm left much of the region without power, and the National Weather Service measured a quarter inch to more than half an inch of ice near Atlanta during the February storm. If the power goes out with your car inside, the red emergency release cord lets you lift the door by hand, as long as the springs are in good shape.

The power is out in Sandy Springs and my car is in the garage. How do I get it out?

Pull the red emergency release cord with the door fully closed, then lift the door by hand. If it feels very heavy, stop, because the springs may be broken.

My driveway slopes and the garage door won't seal on one side. Can that be fixed?

Usually, yes. We level the door by adjusting the cables and the opener's close limit, and replace worn rollers or hinges from the truck if they are part of the problem.

My house dates to the 1960s. Is the garage door worth repairing?

Often it is, since springs, cables and rollers are replaceable. If the panels themselves are worn out, we can measure for a new door at no charge.
