Roswell was chartered in 1854 and counted more than 92,000 people in the 2020 census, enough to rank it as the ninth-largest city in Georgia. It started as a mill town on Vickery Creek, and the ruins of the mill and its 30-foot dam still stand. The city was part of Cobb County until 1932, when it was moved into Fulton. Its southern boundary follows the Chattahoochee River, and the city keeps more than 900 acres of parkland.
