Smyrna, the Jonquil City, counted 55,663 people in the 2020 census and sits about a mile northwest of the Atlanta city limits. It was incorporated in 1872. After Lockheed reopened the nearby Bell Bomber plant in 1951, the population went from 2,005 in 1950 to almost 20,000 by 1970. More recently, thousands of new homes, mostly cluster homes, townhouses and condos, have replaced older neighborhoods.
That leaves two kinds of garage in town. The older houses from the postwar growth years may have original doors and openers that are simply worn out. In a newer townhome the garage can be tight, and a door has to fit the space overhead and at the sides. Both get the same free measurement before a new door is ordered, and old doors are hauled away on install day.
The ground isn't flat, either. Smyrna is Piedmont country, with hills, broad ridges and sloping uplands. Add humid summers, with average Atlanta dewpoints between 63.7 and 67.8 degrees in June and July, and steel hardware such as hinges, rollers and springs can start to rust, especially in a garage that stays damp. Rough or noisy operation is a good reason to have the hardware looked at before something breaks.
I have a Smyrna townhome with a tight garage. Will a new door fit?
Most likely. We measure the headroom and side room for free first, so the door we order fits the space you have.
The rollers and hinges on my garage door are rusty. Do they need replacing?
If they are pitted, stiff or noisy, yes. We carry rollers and hinges on the truck, so it's usually a single visit.
Is it worth keeping the original door on an older Smyrna house?
If the panels are solid, a repair often makes sense. If they are cracked or badly dented, we can measure for a new door at no cost.
